Good Night: Routines for Your End of Day

Many people have morning routines — maybe a cup of coffee, a couple of yoga poses and the like. But, sometimes we’re so drained by the end of the day, it feels like an accomplishment to just brush your teeth before you crawl into bed. But having a productivity-boosting night routines can help set you up for greater success tomorrow. Here are a few ways to cap of your day in a way that can help to enhance your health, your spirit and your productivity.

  • Decide what your three most important objectives are for the following day. Write them down using a notebook or smartphone app and visualize how you’ll get them all done. This is shown by research to increase the likelihood you’ll actually follow through.
  • Clear off and organize your desk. File any papers from completed tasks, and put anything that requires your attention tomorrow front and center. Close down any unnecessary tabs in your browser, and make sure you have everything you need for the morning right where you need it. Your night routines should create a space free of visual clutter to reduce stress and help yourself stay on target.
  • Take a break from TV, your computer and smartphone. Better sleep means better productivity, so stay away from devices that emit blue light, which is thought to block melatonin and disrupt restorative sleep (or at least use a blue light filter). Go “old-school” for a couple of hours before bedtime and pull out a newspaper, book or magazine if you want to do some light reading.
  •  Set yourself up for success. Pick out your outfit, lay out a nice table setting for breakfast, and pack up your work bag and prepare a healthy lunch or snacks to take to the office. By adding morning night prep to your night routines. You’ll feel more prepared and be less likely to forget anything important when you leave the house.
  • Take a moment to be thankful. Make a note (physical or mental) of three things that you’re grateful for. Keeping your focus on all the good things in your life can be a great strategy to attract more of what you truly want and be happier with what you already have.

Wishing you a very good night!
